Ethiopia’s agriculture minister, Oumer Hussein, announced on Twitter that coffee exports brought in 1.4 billion over the course of a year by shipping 300,000 tons of coffee, a record high in the nation’s coffee export history. Furthermore, revenue climbed by $500 million over last year.

Coffee, which accounts for the lion’s share of the country’s export profits, employs and sustains more than a quarter of the population while providing more than 30 percent of the country’s foreign money.

Ethiopia’s newly released Comprehensive Coffee Development Strategy aims to quadruple coffee revenue by 2033. The successful implementation of the strategy is expected to increase exports from $780 million in 2019 to $3.6 trillion – 4.6 trillion within 15 years, farmer income from $468 million to 3.5 billion, and coffee supply from 470,000 metro tons in 2019 to nearly 1.26 million metro tons in 2033, while also creating 2.7 million jobs.
