Ethiopian Medical Association
The Ethiopian Medical Association (EMA), the first professional association in the country, was formally established in July 1962 through a formal Charter granted to it by the then Emperor Haile Selassie I. The Association was from the beginning named “The Ethiopian Medical Association” (EMA) and has retained the name to date, except between 1985 and 1992 during the Derg regime when it was called “Ethiopian Medical Doctors’ Association” (EMDA).

The Ethiopian Society of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ESOG) was established in 1992 in response to the Safe Motherhood Initiative as a collective professional expression of concern to the high maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity, and the poor SRH status in the country.

Ethiopian Nurses Association (ENA)
The Ethiopian Nurses Association (ENA) was established in1952 and is legally recognized professional association that represents more than 86,000 nurses in Ethiopia. It is the first professional association in Ethiopia. It striving to standardize, and promote quality nursing services to the society through research, education, leadership and good governance. It was registered on the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in 1957. ENA is a not-for-profit which exists to represent the profession of nursing in Ethiopia, to promote excellence in the nursing practice and protect the public as well as the rights of nurses.

Public Health Officers Association of Ethiopia
Health officers training program was started in Ethiopia in 1954 in the then Gondar Public Health and Training Center. The training was interrupted during the Derg Regime and resumed later in the current government administration. Graduates of the program are placed at the center piece of the Primary Health Care Unit of the Public Health System (they manage Health Center with its satellite Health Posts; Woreda Health Office with several Health Center under it).

Ethiopian Radiographers and Radiologic Technologists Association (ERRTA) is a professional association represents Ethiopian Radiographers and Radiologic Technologists. It is established in 1985 and registered under the new Ethiopia Civil Society’s Law.
